Mainly, sitemap is a XML page with full of listed your page’s link. So if you have a sitemap, you can upload this sitemap’s link to search engines. For an example;

Our sitemap is based on http://myuniversityblog.com/sitemap.xml
And i have a Google account. Using this link ( click here please ) you can install your sitemap to Google and in a few days Google starts to identify your all pages. So this will be your second step to be on the first page.

To create a sitemap for wordpress, there are some free plug-ins. But most populer and useful is Google Xml Sitemaps ( click here to download).

This plug-in send pings to the all search enginees after your publishing a post.
